Time to have some serious fun

We play socially and competitively, and welcome players of all ages and abilities. We are a friendly club and are always looking to recruit good people, play lots of chess and enjoy ourselves.

We meet on Monday evenings from about 7pm. Our venue is Northenden Social Club:

Address: 408-412 Palatine Rd, Manchester M22 4JT.

(it costs only £2 to get into the Social Club for non members)

It is a great venue.

The Social Club offers excellent facilities, free parking, a great atmosphere and very competitive prices at the bar. Please do not bring in food or drinks purchased elsewhere.

In the last 4 years we have won both D and E divisions in the Manchester League and been victorious in the Alfred Milner Cup twice!! We are building on that success and looking to the future.

We are enjoying a growing presence online with teams on lichess.org and chess.com

We are also on facebook and Instagram and are beginning to embrace that future already.

Now is a great time to take a few more steps in chess, once again to take up a game you have always enjoyed, or to strive to improve your skills while at the same time meeting like-minded people

and having fun.

Now is the time to come to NCC.

Now is the time to play chess.

Love Chess

NCC is mad for it!

“Chess is the struggle against the error.”

J. Zukertort

“Chess, like love, like music, has the power to make men happy.”

S. Tarrasch

“You may learn much more from a game you lose than from a game you win. You will have to lose hundreds of games before becoming a good player.

J. R. Capablanca

"“Chess is a war over the board. The object is to crush the opponent’s mind.”"

Robert Fischer

"The game of chess is not merely an idle amusement. Several very valuable qualities of the mind, useful in the course of human life, are to be acquired or strengthened by it… For Life is a kind of Chess, in which we have often points to gain, and competitors or adversaries to contend with."

Benjamin Franklin

"He had a good memory for bad openings and bad memory for good ones."

anon.

“The beauty of chess is it can be whatever you want it to be. It transcends language, age, race, religion, politics, gender, and socioeconomic background. Whatever your circumstances, anyone can enjoy a good fight to the death over the chess board.”

Simon Williams

"Chess helps you to concentrate, improve your logic. It teaches you to play by the rules and take responsibility for your actions, how to problem solve in an uncertain environment."

Garry Kasparov

You are looking at Northenden Social Club on Palatine road in Northenden village next to Tesco and just behind the war memorial

The no entry sign indicates you cannot drive in that way.

Next to this view, on its left, is a row of shops at the end of which is a phone box. The entrance for vehicles is next to the phone box

There is ample space for parking.

We look forward to seeing you.
